Thursday, February 8th - Today we discussed the meaning of culture, how culture works to bond communities and help us make sense of the world. Culture is sort of like our operating system. Homework for today: Finish the questions on the "Today's World" handout if you haven't already. Wednesday, February 7th - We continued our discussion on the characteristics and values of the modern world. We then shifted our attention to the history of the planet and what it means to be human. Tomorrow we will be looking at the emergence of humanity. Tuesday, February 6th - Today we did an introductory activity on the legacy empires, cultures and developments which came before us. We ended with a thought experiment - If high advanced alien life found our planet 100 years after humanity disappeared(does not matter how), what would they think of us? Read the instructions on the handout you received in class. Monday, February 5th - Lovely to meet you all! Today was about getting settled in to the course and getting to know each other a bit as we will be working together while exploring the past. We talked about some of the themes of the course and where we would go if time travel were real. |
