Studying For A History Test
Tips when studying for a history test:
1. Make flashcards with important key terms, dates, people etc.
2. Make a study guide.
3. Think of a study strategy that works for you.
4. Find out the test format from the teacher, so you can anticipate the type of questions that will be on the test.
5. Test yourself on the material (cover-up the answers and ask yourself the questions) or ask someone to test you.
6. Read your textbook to understand the Main Ideas.
7. DON'T CRAM the night before the test. Get a good night's sleep. (eg. start studying with sufficient time before the test). Pulling all-nighters will not contribute to your success, and is only detrimental to your retainment of knowledge.
8. Join or start a study group. That way, you and your friends can study together and help each other out.
9. If you are nervous on test day, and there is time before the test, review the main ideas that will be on the test. 10. If there is an essay component to the test, read the essay question THOUROUGHLY before writing a response. Looking for key words, such as "compare" or "contrast" will tell you what kind of response the teacher is looking for.
